You can only imagine how excited I was when I was at the thrift store and I saw this beautiful pair of white ice skates. I immediately knew that I wanted to recreate a look I had seen in a magazine of worn, white ice skates hanging so beautifully!
After finishing this project, I knew I had to share it with you all. It turned out SO good!
In this blog, I will show you How To Thrift Flip White Ice Skates Into Gorgeous Grunge Christmas Decorations!
Below is a list of the items you will need to recreate this project:

These ice skates were embellished with some Christmas ribbon and bright red laces. I started by removing all of those items so I had a blank canvas to work from.
Dixie Belle has this wax called Grunge Gray that creates the most incredible worn and dirty look when applied.
I used a STAALMEESTER Pointed Sash Brush to apply the Grunge Gray wax to the ice skates.
I applied an overall first coat to the entire skate.
I made sure to cover the entire white part of the ice skate, the underside, and the metal part of the skate.
Then, I used a dry paper towel to wipe off the excess wax.
As you can see, the wax highlights the stitching and the scratches on the skate giving it at worn look.
There is an area on one of the skates that has a dark stain.
Dixie Belle has a product that is called ‘Dixie Dirt’ and that’s exactly what it is!
I used my fingers to rub dixie dirt into the stained area to give it a more grungy look.
Then, I used a dry paper towel to pat down the dirt into the area.
It does not cover it completely but it does make the stain look better.
You may have to add wax and add dirt then wipe it off a few times until you find the exact look you want!
I LOVE how this looks in the stitching - it’s perfect!
For the laces, I decided to use this yarn that I thrifted.
You could always thread the yarn as laces from the start and apply the grunge to it.
However, I though the yarn was a beautiful drop cloth color and I have a lot of that in my home.
I decided to add them after so that the drop cloth color stood out.
Since they are not fully dry yet, some of the gray grunge wax and dirt may come off onto the laces and that is perfectly fine - it ties them together really well!
Lastly, I hung them up in my bedroom among some other decor, and they look so good!
