Do you have brown paper bags in your kitchen? What about a pickle jar in your fridge? If so, you’re ready to create this next project!
DIY-ing your own Christmas decorations allows you to sprinkle a little bit of your personality onto the holiday season. It's like Santa's workshop in your own home, minus the elves but with a whole lot of hot glue and greenery!
In this blog, I will show you How I Used Brown Paper Bags to Create Unique DIY Christmas Decorations!
Below is a list of the items you will need to recreate this project:
(2) Pickle Jars of varying sizes
(2) Brown Paper Bags

Pickle Jars are a must-keep item for DIY’ers.
They are the perfect shape and size for so many different projects.
First, I inserted one of the pickle jars into a brown paper bag.
Next, I place a rubberband around the neck of the pickle jar.
Then, I slowly began to roll the paper bag down until it is even with the top of the pickle jar.
Once you are done rolling the paper bag down, your jar should look like the image below.
Next, I placed the larger pickle jar into a brown paper bag.
Since there was a large gap between the bag and the jar, I decided to add plastic bags to give the jar a fuller shape.
Then, I put a rubberband around the top of the jar.
As you can see in the below image there was not enough paper bag left to roll down.
Instead, I used tap to tape the paper bag to the inside of the pickle jar.
If you do not have tape on hand, you could also hot glue it!
Next, I wrapped jute twine around the neck of the jar to hide the rubberband.
To embellish the bags, I applied an IOD Merry and Bright stamp to the center of the jar.
Unfortunately, these are not available anymore since they were a holiday-limited release.
Luckily, IOD has a few similar stamp collections called IOD Crockery or IOD Antiquities that you can use!
Using my IOD Empty Ink Pad, I inked up my stamp.
You will want to make sure the IOD Ink covers the entire stamp.
Then, I took the stamp and centered it on one of my jars.
Using my hands, I pressed firmly into the stamp so that it transferred evenly onto the bag.
Once you lift the stamp off of the bag, it should look like the below image! How cute is that?
Next, I applied the stamp to my other jar.
Even though it is a little bit harder, I apply the stamp after I wrap the pickle jars in brown paper bags to ensure that I place the stamp directly in the middle.
Beautiful! I chose to use IOD Tomotto Ink; however, you can use any ink color that best matches your home decor style.
