I thrifted these old curtain rings a long time ago. I knew I could do something with them and now is the time!
I used Fusion Milk Paint in the color Stockholm green. It is so beautiful!
I wish Fusion would make this paint in the All In One paint because I love it so much!
If you have not used milk paint before - the instructions suggest mixing 1/2 powder with 1/2 water to create your paint.
Using a STAALMEESTER Pointed Sash Brush I applied one coat of paint to one side of all the rings.
Afterward, I allowed them to dry before flipping them over and applying another coat of paint to the other side.
If you're using milk paint, the goal is often to achieve that aged, distressed look, so it's fine if the brown shows through a bit.
For intentional chipping and crackling, you can speed up the drying process by using a heat gun.
Once the rings were completely dry, I used IOD stamps on flour sack tea towels to create detailed ring pictures.
I used two different IOD stamp collections:
To use IOD stamps, you will want to use these tools:
Your chosen stamps
First, lay your stamp down on your thin mount.
Second, apply ink to the empty ink pad.
Then, ink up your stamp.
Optional: Iron your flour sack tea towel prior to stamping so that there are no creases in your material.
Next, flip the thin mount over onto the flour sack tea towel and use your fingers to press, ensuring an even transfer of the design.
How cute are these unique stamps? I had so much fun trying out different stamps from both collections.
The beauty of DIY is that you have the freedom to create whatever brings you joy and excitement!
Next, I used a hot glue gun to apply glue around the side of 1 of my rings.
Then, I pressed it down onto my flour sack tea towel around one of the stamped images. You will want the ring to be positioned so that it looks like a ‘frame’.
Once the hot glue dried, I cut around the edge so that you couldn’t see the tea towel fabric around the edges.
And that is it! How adorable is that?
I chose to make mine in sets of 2 so that I could pair them up!
This project is versatile and can be adapted for holiday decor as well! Whether it's Christmas, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, or any other celebration, these little hanging frames would complement and enhance your holiday decor pieces perfectly.
