I thrifted these mini terra cotta pots a while back and decided it was time to upcycle them into something unique!
You can also find these at your local craft stores.
I wanted to give the mini pots an aged look so I used Milk Paint in the color Hotel Robe!
The measurement for milk paint is 1 part water to 1 part powder.
However, I wanted a white-washed look, so I added a little more water.
This is what I love about milk paint! You can customize your quantities for whatever look you are trying to achieve.
Once your milk paint is mixed together, use a STAALMEESTER Pointed Sash Brush to apply the paint to your mini terra cotta pots.
Then I used a paper towel to dab off some of the milk paint.
This process allowed me to get the aged and worn look I desired.
You will want to apply a little milk paint and then dab off the excess a few times until the pots look just right!
I also made sure to do the same paint and dab process on the inside of each mini pot.
Once the milk paint has dried, this is how the terra cotta should look!
Next, to make these a little bit more festive for the holidays, I used IOD Letterpress Stamps to add the word J-O-Y to the mini pots.
For this project, you are going to be using an empty ink pad and black ink for your letters.
First, you will lay the letter you want to use onto your thin mount.
Then, use your stamp pad to apply the black ink to the letter.
Next, apply the stamped letter to the middle of the mini terra cotta pot.
You will repeat this same process with each of the letters so that the pots spell J-O-Y.
That’s all there is to it! :)
To embellish my pots, I added bottle brush trees. However, you can add whatever holiday decor matches your decor style.
