I stumbled upon these beautiful bookends while I was thrift shopping at Goodwill.

As soon as I laid eyes on them, they immediately reminded me of a Christmas Tree. Although they might have originally been intended as tassels, my imagination saw their potential to become Christmas home decor pieces. This sparked my creativity and got me thinking about how I could transform them into something truly unique!

For this project, I used Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in the color Collard Greens.

Using a STAALMEESTER Pointed Sash Brush, I applied the chalk paint to the bookends.

You can see in the second image below that I did not paint the top and middle sections.

Since I planned on distressing my bookends - I only painted one coat of paint.

Since the bookends already had a distressed appearance, I used sandpaper to gently sand the new paint so that the entire piece had the same distressed look.

Next, I used a Dixie Belle French tip brush to apply Dixie Belle clear wax onto both bookends.

This wax seals both the paint and the item itself, so you can now place them somewhere in your beautiful home!

How cute is that? The green chalk paint really does make it look like a Christmas tree!

There are countless ways to incorporate these into your Christmas home decor. You can use them as functional bookends or as standalone decorations on a mantle or shelf.

This blog is all about How To Upcycle Christmas Tree Bookends.
