I began with an old board that had served its purpose in a previous project – just two fence boards securely nailed together.

To get started, I used a STAALMEESTER Pointed Sash Brush to apply Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Highlander to cover the entire front of the board.

This color is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I love using this color for all of my Christmas decor.

It is deep, rich, and the perfect Christmas red!

I applied 2 coats of paint to my wood board.

Then, I let it dry completely!

Next, I used this woven jute table runner that I found at Goodwill to add a pocket and some texture to the board.

It looks like this might have been purchased at Walmart. You may be able to find this same one next time you are shopping there.

I started by cutting the runner down to be a little bit longer than my board so I could wrap it around to create a pocket.

As you can see in the image below, I folded up the bottom just a little bit to give it a decorative edge.

Once I had the material positioned on the font how I wanted it - I turned the wood board over so that I could staple the sides in place.

Next, I stapled the bottom of the material to the bottom of the wood as well. This creates the pocket effect!

I noticed that a piece of the jute material was coming loose from the back so I cut it off with my scissors.

Then, I used my staple gun to staple that piece of jute twine into the board so that it creates a convenient hook for hanging this up.

All done! How simple and easy was that DIY Christmas project?
